How I used the power of using guided imagery and affirmations to heal
In 2014, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After I decided to start chemotherapy, I knew I needed to get my mind right, to not fear what I was doing. If I were going to try chemo, I needed to let it work and not block it with any fear, and I had a lot of fear. I was terrified of it. Starting chemotherapy was the scariest decision of my life, but Belleruth Naparstek's guided meditation brought me a sense of peace and comfort.
This meditation became a vital part of my healing process. I listened to this CD for a while during my infusions and during my daily morning coffee enema routine. In order for the imagery to be so effective, I needed to be calm and her gentle voice helped me get to that state. The instructions are simple and clear, and she explains exactly how to use the CD tracks.
Her soothing voice helped me “see” a golden fountain of healing liquid that was so vivid and beautiful, allowing me to face treatment with courage.
Guided imagery and affirmations to accompany chemotherapy treatment is designed to naturally and holistically help reduce the side effects of chemo, such as nausea, vomiting, mouth sores, low blood counts and fatigue, and offer a counter-balance to fear, depression and anxiety. Guided imagery for chemotherapy is a holistic, mind-body therapy that consists of healing words and images, set to soothing music, to achieve specific healing goals. Repeated listening once or twice a day for 2-3 weeks ensures maximum impact on physical comfort and positive attitude. This particular audio program has been distributed by oncology nurses in chemo units nationwide, through the auspices of Smithkline Beecham, Roche, Amgen, Kaiser Permanente, Blue Shield and many notable hospitals such as the Mayo Clinic, Dana Farber and Johns Hopkins.
Written and narrated by guided imagery and holistic health expert Belleruth Naparstek and scored to the exquisitely soothing music of Steven Mark Kohn. The immersive, hypnotic, calming guided imagery and affirmations on this chemotherapy meditation program provide a sense of peace, control and mastery during a difficult time. Words and music combine to put chemo treatment in a more positive light, offering the central image of a lovely fountain of healing liquid, cleansing and clearing the body, and helping the body's own natural defense system do its work.
Additional suggestions of being surrounded by loving supporters and caring guardians lift spirits and create a sense of protection and safety - also helpful for boosting immune function and generating hope and emotional resilience during a stressful time. A separate track of affirmations in this guided meditation for chemotherapy offer briefer versions of these same empowering images and ideas, for those who prefer their mind-body tools in a briefer format, for use while on the go, and even while driving.
